Short Biography: Émile Gallé,
was at * 4 Born May 1846 in Nancy and died on † 23 September 1904 also in Nancy. Émile Gallé has become particularly known for the design of ceramics, glass and furniture in the style of historicism
or Art Nouveau.

He was born in Nancy in a family of brands of china and crystal. After his baccalaureate (high school) he studied philosophy, zoology, botany and mineralogy in Germany. He learned Working with glass and wood, specializing in glass blowing.

From 1862 to 1866, Gallé held in Germany, among others in Weimar, later in Meisenthal in Moselle. After another stay in London, where he represented his father's firm in an exhibition Art de France, and Paris, he returned full of new impressions back to Nancy.

Here he experimented with new techniques of glassblowing (marbling, reflections, glass layers with the smelting of gold and silver foils, blisters).

1874 he took charge of his father's plant, and a year later he married the pastor's daughter Henriette Grimm. He installed himself La Garenne in the studio. In 1883 he built the studios from significant: There were workshops for pottery, glass and wood.

1885 he traveled to Berlin and studied in the Decorative Arts Museum's famous collection of Chinese glass art.

He opened sales offices in Paris (1885), Frankfurt (1887) and later in London. In 1889 he had over three hundred employees.

1901 he founded with his brothers Augustin and Antonin Daum and René Lalique and Gabriel Argy-Rousseau École de Nancy, which represented among other things, the interests of the glass artist. He was its first president.
